In exactly one week from today, I’ll be in Mexico. Eating tacos. On a Tuesday!
I’m going to Mexico for two full months, flying into Guadalajara, and probably out of Mexico City. I say probably because I haven’t bought my flight yet. I know where I’m going after (Puerto Rico), and I’ve been searching flights (Skyscanner), but I have been waiting for my new travel credit card to arrive (Delta/American Express) to pull the trigger. Flights between Mexico City and San Juan feel annoyingly expensive, so I want to at least get something back for buying an expensive ticket. Travel points for purchases? yes please!
One week until flight time means last minute logistics. People who don’t travel much just see the glamorous stuff- the Instagram photos, the funny stories, the new friends. But travel is ALL about those logistics, and they can get Exhausting.
I’ve already booked my first three nights at the DoubeTree by Hilton Guadalajara, for a little luxury and rooftop views, thanks to my Chase Sapphire points 💅. But the remaining 56 days? Yeah, I still gotta figure that out.
I ordered a LifeStraw water bottle, which is currently on its way to me as we speak. The LifeStraw is a bottle with a 2-Stage Integrated Filter Straw (imagine a whale filtering out plankton with its bristles) that will allow me to drink the water in Mexico without getting sick, or wasting a ton of plastic bottles.
I need to go last minute shopping. Conditioner. Travel sized toothpaste. Summer clothes. I always like getting a few new clothing items before a new trip. Since I don’t like to pack a lot of things, I try to bring just a few things I really like so wearing repeats often doesn’t feel quite so bad. If I’m wearing new clothes, it’s not gross, it’s FUN! I also like to save a little room in my carry-on suitcase for buying local items once I get there.
I need to figure out transportation from the airport to my hotel. Transportation between cities. Packing. Uff. Lots of things.
Luckily there is one thing left on my list that is not overwhelming me, which is insurance. The idea of travel insurance used to stress me out. So I just didn’t get it, and hoped for the best. But last year when I went to Argentina, and I needed to find a travel medical insurance that had Covid coverage, I found SafetyWing. Because SafetyWing was created by nomads for nomads, they just get it in a way that most other travel medical insurance companies don’t. And they make it easy. SafetyWing is super flexible and I can start and end coverage whenever I want, paying just for the exact days I need. If you’re looking to travel any time soon, I recommend looking into it!
Unfortunately the start of Mexico, means the end of Argentina. I do hope all of those who found me during my Argentina journey will continue to follow along throughout my adventures in this upcoming year- Mexico, Puerto Rico, and fingers crossed, Sri Lanka & India.
As always, thank you so much to everyone who have supported me along the way. I hope you’re ready to take your own trips soon, if you haven’t left already. And if we’re ever in the same place at the same time, give me a shout. Let’s meet up for a tea or a beer in whichever corner of the world we might find ourselves in.
The next time you hear from me, I’ll be in Mexico, hopefully with a lager and a taco in hand.
